As a Peak Performance Consultant I do breakthrough consultations with people to establish what their needs are and if there’s a good match for us to work together. Also, over the years as a Chiropractor I’ve coached 1000’s of my patients on the importance of diet and in both cases it has struck me that most people simply view food as a source of energy. We need much more than just the calories in food, more importantly our body needs to extract the nutrients from food and utilise them for growth and repair.
With that said, in the last few years I’ve noticed there has been an increase in the number of people wanting to take better care of themselves and many of them realise that optimum nutrition plays a vital role in this process.
More and more people are looking for a “Preventive Wellness Solution” rather than waiting to get sick and then looking for someone to fix them which is the way the western world has brainwashed society to act! I’m glad to say that is starting to become the old way of thinking though, particularly among many entrepreneurs and business owners!
From studying very successful business men and women, it’s clear that among having many other characteristics in common, they all attribute having massive amounts of energy as a secret to their success! So what are the ways to easily boost and maintain your energy?
There are 3 Core Steps to boosting and maintaining your energy in 2013:
- Eat Well
- Move Well
- Think Well
In this article we will focus purely on the Eating Well step. Within eating well I’ll focus on 3 simple strategies you can begin to use straight away to begin to transform your energy and performance so that you have your best year yet!
1. Drastically Increase Your Water Intake
When you are dehydrated by as little as 5% then you’re going to experience a loss of approx 25% energy! It’s estimated that over 80% of the world’s population is more than 5% dehydrated!
Do you remember the last time you drank enough water in the day? And do you know how much water is enough?
When you drink lots of good quality water you feel great, full of energy and vitality. For several years now people have said that 8 glasses of water per day is enough to keep you hydrated, I disagree with that though. Drinking 2 litres per day will still leave you dehydrated so you actually need 3-4 litres of good quality filtered water per day!
You may relate to some of the following symptoms of dehydration: you often get headaches, foggy thinking, fatigue in your mind and body, mood swings, overeating and your metabolism slows down dramatically – hello weight gain! 80% of your body should be water and the rest is just cells and tissues i.e. bone cells, muscles, connective tissues, blood vessels, skin etc…
Your body needs water for almost every bodily function so when you’re dehydrated you will suffer physically and mentally.
2. Take Wheatgrass Daily
You may have heard of wheatgrass and probably seen people drinking it? My patients often say to me “what’s that bottle of green stuff you’re drinking?” When I tell them of the many health benefits of wheatgrass they become very interested! I like to call wheatgrass an internal detox! It restores alkalinity to the blood.
It contains an abundance of alkaline minerals helping to reduce over-acidity in the blood. It’s very important to alkalise your body because chronic over-acidity in the body is linked to many conditions / diseases e.g. cancer, heart disease, strokes, arthritis, osteoporosis and more.
A high percentage of the western diet is acid forming so most people would benefit from using wheatgrass to alkalise their bodies. As well as its detoxifying properties wheatgrass will also give you lot’s more energy, you’ll sleep better at night, wake up earlier and feel refreshed at the same time! It’s also been said that wheatgrass has anti-aging properties!
You can juice fresh Wheatgrass using a specialised Juicer, most people however use wheatgrass powder. Start off using ½ a sachet in a pint of filtered water twice daily and you’ll start to enjoy the benefits of wheatgrass very soon!
3. Eliminate Dairy Products From Your Diet
For at least the next 30 days, cut out all dairy products from your diet and watch what happens to your energy levels and level of performance both physically and mentally. I can hear some people of you saying “but we need dairy products so we have strong bones don’t we?”
In short No! Dairy products will actually contribute to the opposite i.e. they are a cause of Osteoporosis (brittle bones!). The reason for this is because they are acid forming (see acidity related problems above). Also in case you were wondering, you can get all the calcium you need from dark green vegetables, nuts, seeds and herbs.
Aside from these very significant acidity issues, removing dairy products from your diet completely will cause you to quickly lose excess weight (usually around the mid section first), improve digestion and massively boost your energy and performance! So go on give it a go for the next 30 days, what have you got to lose? Here’s to your health, wealth and happiness for 2013!
